1.0 INTRODUCTION
Kerr Enterprises distributes DrHELP as Shareware. The product is
free - subject to your acceptance of the license agreement below.
No registration fee is required.
The program, downloaded from any bulletin board system, and its data
files may be freely copied and shared. I ask you to help me dis-
tribute this version by sharing UNMODIFIED copies with others.
Thank you for your support. I hope you get some use from the
program.
This program has been written to provide a mechanism for on-line
help for Dr DOS Version 5.0 commands. Similar programs exist for
other versions of MSDOS and PCDOS. It's colorful and it's useful.
Technical information for the help text itself was taken from the
Dr DOS User Guide and from the help text displayed by Dr DOS when
you enter a command with the /H(elp) option. It is technically
accurate to the best that I can determine.
If you find any errors from minor typos to technical errors and
pass them to me, I will make every effort to correct them in a
future release.
You may write or utilize one of the two supported commercial
services (both CompuServe and GENIE) to obtain support or report
problems. Electronic mailboxes are checked only on a weekly
basis, but are a very effective way of communicating. Electronic
mailboxes are great for relating problems, receiving work-arounds
and/or problem specific updates.
I support electronic communications on both GENIE and CompuServe.
You are strongly advised to obtain a USER ID on at least one
of these services as no other form of electronic support will
be provided.
On GENIE, you can leave mail addressed to T.KERR1. Mail messages
are answered as soon as possible. If you need information on
obtaining a GENIE account you can call GENIE toll free at
800-638-9636.
CompuServe electronic correspondence is limited to EMAIL. My
EMAIL ID is [75140,3326]. If you are a CompuServe user and
you need to reach me, use EMAIL. EMAIL messages are answered
as soon as possible. If you need information on obtaining a
CompuServe account you can call CompuServe toll free at
800-848-8199.

2.0 INSTALLATION
The program should run without problems on any machine capable of
running Dr DOS Version 5.0. It will run from any disk or directory,
as long as all three files are colocated. I recommend installing
(merely copying) the files in any directory that is on your PATH
statement and adding an APPEND statement to your AUTOEXEC.BAT file
for that directory. That way, the program and its two data files
can be found and run from the command line no matter what current
default working disk and directory you are working from.
To get help on any Dr DOS command, simply enter "HELP" to bring up
the DrHELP main menu for access to help on any command. Or, enter
"HELP <command>", where <command> is any valid Dr DOS command, if
you already know what command you need help on.
I made a conscious decision not to develop this program as a TSR.
I felt that most situations in which the program would be run
(i.e., be useful) would be ones where the user is already at the
command line prompt. You're ready to enter a DOS command - you
don't quite remember the right syntax or right switch option to
use - and entering one DRHELP command is easier and quicker than
going to find your manual.
